Since showing you my bargain wrap dress last May (https://hourglassy.com/2012/05/playing-dress-up-with-a-g-cup/), I’ve been looking for the right necklace to go with it. Also, one of you commented that the cami I wore with it seemed too heavy for the dress, which I thought was an extremely helpful observation.
Below is another look with a necklace I found for $4.33 (DIY from a giant bin of glass pendants and an assortment of ties) and a lighter camisole.
I’m still testing the principle that it’s more flattering with than without a necklace. What do you think?
(I’m writing today’s post from my smartphone so I’ll pretty things up later.)
definately better with a necklace but the cami is so heavy that a necklace this light doesn’t quite hide that. Think if the cami was v-neck it’d work better. And actually think a greenish cami that suits the dress might work well, white is so eye popping cause it is so bright. But on another note, these colours look wonderful on you!
Tina, when I find a greenish cami, I’m going to snatch it up.
The cami in the first picture is much better than the cami in the second. It’s more flattering to your bust as well. Although, it is less work appropriate? I can’t quite tell from the angle of the picture, but it looks like you have a hint of cleavage in the first picture.
I struggle with necklaces in my own accessorizing. Although a necklace can really balance out an outfit, it also draws more attention to my chest (not to mention the occasional mishap of pendants falling into my cleavage…). So I find that I either need a short necklace that stays at neck level or a long one that falls to my stomach. And more often that not, I end up abandoning the necklace for a pair of dangly earrings or a hair accessory in an effort to create another focal point on my body.
Anna, I usually go the dangly earring route, too! And good eye about the cleavage. DH and I just took the subway back from meeting w/ our new accountant–DH kept stealing glances the whole subway ride home. 🙂 I also found myself hiking the cami up while meeting w/ the accountant who, fortunately, is not interested in women.
I definitely like the first cami better than the second one. I’ve tried using tanks as camis under wrap shirts/dresses and I can never seem to get the tank to fit “evenly” within the “V” of the neckline. One side of the tank straps stick out more than the other, if that makes any sense. A real cami just goes straight across and looks neater to me. I agree with the above commenter that a cami more in the color family of the dress would work better and that may even make the necklace look more prominent. I prefer the shorter necklace to the longer.
