Today I decided to follow through on an experiment: Is finding a button-front shirt that fits merely a matter of buying a bigger size and having it altered? Since I have a feeling alterations are going to be costly, and I don’t want to be too disappointed if the final result isn’t perfect, I shopped at the discount store Syms in Midtown.
It was really fun to take any shirt I liked off the rack without listening to the “it’ll never fit” voice in the back of my head. They weren’t supposed to fit; they just needed to be fit-able. I came away with two white cotton blend shirts for a total of $43. I’ll post pictures tomorrow and hopefully report back from my visit to the seamstress . There’s a tailoring shop near our library that I’ve been wanting to try, and this gives me the perfect excuse.
