Before Monday, I would have said all of them. It’s been ages since the machine has beeped on me. (It’s been less than ages since I’ve had other issues with security, but that’s another story.) However, even after removing my belt, then my earrings, then turning my pockets inside out, the machine kept beeping, which led to the Full Body Pat Down.
“I don’t understand,” I said. “Everyone wears underwires.”
“Not everyone,” the tiny-chested little Pat Down Lady corrected me.
This was my first time to wear my Wacoal Alluring through airport security. Could that have made the difference? If I hadn’t been rushing to catch my flight, I would have loved to have changed bras and gone through again. Wait! Did I just say I would love to go repeatedly through airport security? I’m never early to the airport, but for an experiment like this, I just might get there hours ahead of time.
How about you–have you found the underwires of some bra brands to be more troublesome than others when going through airport security?
I ALWAYS set off the scanner.
I suspect that everything in my size (40H – 42H) is made with thicker wire than either smaller or low-end bras.
As I am a frequent flyer, I usually just tell them I will need the pat down. What I’ve noticed is that scanners have different sensitivities. The same bra that sets off a scanner in Newark may not set it off in Rome but will in Frankfurt.
Hmmmmm. I know the wire in my Wacoal feels different from the wire in my Empreinte and Prima Donna, so I’m wondering if the coating is a factor.
Just my luck, when I get ready to run this experiment, none of the scanners will beep because their sensitivities will too high.
I don’t know if there is a different sensitivity or just that they randomly beep sometimes. I usually travel in the same outfit and it sets of the alarm sometimes and sometimes not, even in the same airport through the control at the same place…
One time I had a couple of bras in my bag and TSA said the underwires “looked like something else” in the x-ray. I thought that was pretty ridiculous: don’t they see hundreds of underwires every day?
I must say though that after my last flying experience, after which I actually CRIED, I hate the TSA and I think they are a serious threat to liberty and safety.
WORD.
I don’t fly much, but am going away later this month. I hadn’t thought about my bras; it wasn’t an issue before. My husband will be mortified if I need a pat down! Perhaps I’ll try a braless outfit, or put one in my carryon instead! Now I’m worried! LOL.
The Chantelle River Gauche sets off the metal detectors every time. Also I wouldn’t try the Fantasie strapless again (only wore it through once and it beeped). I’ve never had trouble with my Chantelle Africa Sexy bras or Freya Arabella.
SO helpful to hear about specific styles and brands. Thanks, Laura!
My Wacoal Bodysuede bras set off the security system at the airports every time. I’ve bought an Awareness bra to see if it does the same thing. If anybody knows of a comparable bra that will not set off the scanners, I’d be pleased to know the brand.
