Here’s my last swimsuit review for our Busty and the Beach series. This time, it’s the Freya Sundance again, but now it’s the High-Neck Crop Top Bikini in white. I’ve got the top in size 30G and the hipster briefs in medium.
Disclosure: This set was received as a review sample. All opinions are my own and based entirely on my experience. I measure 37”-29”-41”, height 5’6”, and bra size UK 28GG/30G.
When I was in middle and high school, crop top-style halter bikinis were all the rage. And they provided some much-appreciated extra coverage for a budding young lady. Imagine my disappointment, then, when I discovered at the age of 13 that all the halter options at JC Penny were not designed with anything above B-cups in mind. The bikini tops had no contouring whatsoever, so my larger than average teenage boobs basically flopped out the bottom or the sides.
As such, I’ve been very excited to see crop top halters roar back into style the last couple years, and that big bust brands have been embracing the style like crazy!
Freya’s Sundance crop top features underwire three-part light foam cups. Then atop that, you have a sheer crochet overlayer. The crochet layer ties behind the neck, and the band closes with a non-adjustable plastic closure.
There are also quite tall wings with side stays (though luckily, the wings quickly narrow toward the clasp). The wings and gore are made of three fabric layers: crochet, opaque lycra, and a mesh lining.
The fit of the inner cups this time is…not great on me. It’s similar to the Bondi longline that I purchased (and returned) in 2015. However, this time the cups seem to have much more projection, as there was basically no crushing or folding at the base of the cup. But like the Bondi, the cups still aren’t tall or open enough on me, curving in and smooshing my boobs into a major quad-boob shape.
I still think this is technically the right size for me since the bottom half fits so well, but it’s just not the right shape. If you are less full on top and have breast tissue that doesn’t extend quite as high up, then this will fit you a lot better.
Still, this top has another thing going for it that means I can successfully wear it without worrying about perfect fit—the halter! Once I tie it behind my neck, the crochet outer layer basically smooths out and hides all that quad-boob.
While posing for the above shot, I also noticed that this halter shape does an excellent job pulling in and smoothing any errant armpit jiggle:
Since the inner cups are basically a cut-and-sew strapless bra, the bikini doesn’t depend on the straps for support. So I found the halter very comfortable with no neck strain. I don’t have to tie it ultra-tight and it doesn’t bear any weight even when wet. So despite the fit issues, I really like the suit and find it pretty comfortable!
As for the bottoms, they are exactly the same as the black ones from my previous review. But I have to warn readers that the white fabric shows a little more…visible contouring…than the black. When dry, the suit basically has a permanent look of both camel-toe and wedgie, even though I couldn’t feel it. Unexpectedly, it improved once the suit was wet.
Swimming in this set was also successful. I felt supported and comfortable even while diving. And the narrowness of the halter meant there was no rubbing in my armpits. I had great freedom of movement.
Post-swim, everything was still in place. I’m really looking forward to wearing this suit to the beach this summer!
