I finally had my second meeting with the fashion consultant at Stockmann, the Finnish equivalent of Macys. Last Friday we had a two hour meeting where she’d picked out what I had requested:

  • Cardis –  never can find one I like.
  • Work jeans – finding comfortable well fitting jeans is so difficult.
  • A classic stylish wool coat – thought it could not be found, but I was wrong!
  • Off the rack tops to wear with jeans or skirts.
  • Off the rack dresses that fit without alterations.
  • Necklaces that suit big busts.
  • Comfortable black boots.

Rack full of clothes selected by the fashion consultant for me. The patterned skirt on the desk was a miss but then the actual dress with that pattern was pure rock’n’roll.

I ended up really liking five items, which I purchased. I think I tried on about on about thirty items. As a shopping method this was fantastic! I will definitely conduct my off the rack shopping in this way in the future. Browsing the racks in a big department store when so many cuts or styles that won’t fit the busty is just so frustrating that I had mainly given up on anything except online shopping from places that sell items that I know will fit. The fashion consultant now has all my info on file so I can just email her what I need, she’ll pick it out for me to try on, and we’ll book an appointment. She has her own office with a big changing room and good mirrors and natural light from big windows. She’ll even go get more items during the session to fit the client’s taste. Excellent service I must say.

This look we both liked on me, but I did not buy it. The top was too tight even though the cut was superb–a v-neck without any cleavage. I did realize that I have an almost identical skirt just sitting in my closet, so this inspired me to use it as I’ve lost some weight recently around my tummy area so skirts don’t feel that uncomfortable to wear anymore.

The high v-neck was quite flattering, yet very office appropriate. The skirt draping detail also gave a nice line to my bottom half. Shame that this top was too tight.

This dress I did end up getting although she only sold it to me when we added the necklace. It was just so much one color surface and draping even with the short v-neck that it did not look right. But when we added a necklace it broke the color surface and gave a nice line. (The necklace in the photo isn’t the one that persuaded me.)

We did notice that Nordic brands have started to fit bigger busts brilliantly.

I’m absolutely in love with the Filippa K 100% wool coat that fitted me superbly but I left it to get shortened at the hem so will be reviewing that next week! Will also be reviewing the one Esprit cardi I did buy because of the very flattering fit.
