It was a long journey to identify my style and then find stores that cater to it, but now at the age of 35 I’m quite picky in what I wear because I don’t want an item which would require me to shop for another item in order to get wear out of it. My solution to this has been dresses that work with black, brown or tan boots or heels. But now to where I find my style.
Wallis – I’ve fallen in love with their jersey dresses that come in various prints and suit my figure so well. They’re easy to just throw on with black boots or heels. I’ve been eying this dress for some weeks now. Their size UK14 works for me.
VILA – I like their clothes for a smart casual look and make great finds there occasionally. I’m currently coveting this basic dress that can be dressed smarter or just stylish casual. I shop for XL sized clothes from VILA.
NewLook – surprisingly I do shop there even though it tends to be a bit young. But from their midi dresses I can almost always find something that suits my wardrobe. These are my current favorites. I can see me teaming this jersey print sleeveless dress with my Pepperberry denim jacket and boots or sandals for my outside work style. I wear size UK16 (sometimes even 14) in NewLook.
The maroon dress looks like a staple work wear piece, easy to wear just like the Wallis dresses.
Pepperberry – generally they don’t really make clothes that fit into my style, but sometimes yes. I still do look for jackets from there because I’ve not found a fit that would compare to how their jackets are cut to fit bigger busts. This red one looks like something I would get wear out of with my tan / black pieces. I need to take in 16RC because of my wide shoulders. Otherwise I’m usually a 14SC.
This was a list of my staple favorites here. I do shop elsewhere as well. From US labels I love the basic stylish dresses that Calvin Klein and Michael Kors make. Unfortunately they are too pricey in Europe, but when in the US, I shop for those brands in particular.
The Wallis dress at the top is lovely, as is the Pepperberry jacket. I could almost see them together if the dress didn’t have the ruching and knot on the side. I love red + animal print, even though I’d probably be too timid to wear bold mixes myself.
I love red and animal print too but even for me a bit too bold for work but for a dinner I’d love that look! The Wallis dresses have the side knot on many jersey styles which does make it harder to wear a cardi or a jacket with them – but that is the thing which makes them fit an hourglassy figure so well 🙂
I really appreciate the insights and information you have provided in your blog over the years. You deserve a break – even though I am an addict, like your sister
I’m agreeing with you that Darlene does deserve a brake every now and then – your comment probably was meant to go under her post yesterday but I’m sure Darlene sees it here too x I’m and addict to her posts as well, love the variety 🙂
