For those of you who have been jacket-shopping recently, you know that Marketa’s pose for this photo isn’t much of an exaggeration. We found ourselves asking the age-old question: Is it too much to ask for a blazer that looks good buttoned? And of course we came up with the same old answer: Apparently, yes.
The back of this BCBG jacket fit like a glove, but for over $200, the price should include the option of being worn fully buttoned.
We found many classic suit jackets and beautiful knits on Friday, but Marketa is searching for a woven blazer with a little “something” to it that she can wear with a dress or jeans. We came away empty-handed from Macy’s and Lord & Taylor, but we haven’t finished our search.
After the jump, see this extra-small BCBG jacket on our 34D saleslady. I ask you: Could she really be a 34D? Marketa thinks maybe. I think no way. Either way, she looks great in the jacket, even if she can’t button it either!
A cute Macy’s option, but something wasn’t right about the shoulders. Also, a little too fussy for Marketa’s purposes. |
Ugh! This is exactly why I hate shopping. I often come away empty-handed after spending hours going from store to store trying things on. If it fits in the shoulders, it does not fit in the bust. If it fits in the bust, its too big everywhere else.
Awww. I wish I could say that I can't relate. I'm secretly hoping for a deluge of comments telling me I'm crazy and that there are all sorts of woven blazers out there for us.
Most of you ladies on this blog are way more upscale with your choice of clothing shops than I, but I have found great success at a store called Ross Dress for Less. I am not sure if they are all over the country or not, but I never leave there empty handed. Basically they get overstocks and the like and things are really cheap, but don't have defects. I have three blazers from there that fit perfectly in the bust and back without any alterations. Off the subject of blazers, I have several empire waist shirts and dresses from Ross that actually hit at the right spot. The brand for the shirts is Caudia Richard. An 'average' busted woman wouldn't be able to wear them. I am a 30ff and wear a small top.
If you want to button a blazer, never go with a one button–it hits in the wrong place-you need to "lock and load"(a phrase from Stacy and Clinton-What Not To Wear)
Darlene, the first picture clearly demonstrates that the jacket was not designed with curves in mind.
Unlike the shirt that I'm wearing 🙂
Amanda, I felt guilty about writing about Empreinte on Tuesday after your comment. Thanks for your very grounded advice. I loved Ross when I lived in FL, and sometimes I have good luck at TJMaxx and Marshall's here in NYC. Those blazers sound fantastic, and I'm definitely going to look into Claudia Richard (as well as add it to my "Clothing for Us" page). Regarding the blazers, what size and brand are they?
Marketa, this isn't even the picture where you were trying to exaggerate the issue!!
