I was rounding out a recent Nordstrom Rack order as they had the cheapest price on a new Elomi bra in my size when I found this smocked top for spring/summer. Smocking/smocked are some of my favorite keywords to find full bust friendly clothing.
I tried out this top in a red floral and a black and white polka dot. This top from Max Studio sells for $26.97. It also comes in the colors below in sizes XS to XL.
First, I tried the red floral. I did not like the way this top looked from the back and the print is a bit boho for me. You can also see my bra strap peeking out on my back.
I liked the top in black and white polka dot and considered keeping it.
This top can also be worn off the shoulder. I’ve stayed away from off the shoulder tops and dresses thinking it would accentuate my broad shoulders and fuller bust – but it looks great. I will definitely pursue this style in the future.
I did not end up keeping either of the tops. I am working to only buy clothing items that I know I will wear and keep for an entire season and this top felt like something I would wear 2-3 times. I am wearing an XL in all of these pictures. I am 5’7 and my measurements are 49-38-44 inches. Please note that Nordstrom Rack charges a $5.95 return shipping fee.
What are you buying for Spring?
The red one looks super cute on you! This shade compliments your hair colour. I never thought of smocking as bust friendly, but I must say I like the cut better on you than on the model!
Thank you! Red is one of my favorite colors. Smocking for summer tops and dresses gives great stretch to woven fabrics.
These look great! I especially like it on you worn off the shoulder. So happy to see a post from you!
I’ve always read that off the shoulder is a big no-no for a full bust with broad shoulders but not going to listen to that rule anymore.
Making the shoulder look broad makes the bust (and hips) look smaller by comparison. I think it’s a winning and sexy look without having to show cleavage. I’m ordering this top now! Thank you for the review.
Update: I ordered this top in blue from Amazon and had to return it because the peplum was so full. It made me look pregnant! I still think the off-the-shoulder and smocking was a win, so I will keep an eye out for those styles. There is so much trial and error that goes into finding flattering clothes for our unique shapes. I am glad we have this forum for tips.
