Remember my search for a chemise last summer? Thanks to Real Girls Lingerie, I’ve found one that you’re going to love.
When I contacted Sara for my Zinnia cami set, I asked if she would lend me a Peony chemise to write about, too. I have a lot of good things to say about this nightgown, but let’s begin with its best feature: underwires without being a babydoll. It’s constructed of bias cut silk panels that fall smoothly from beneath the bust to end in a feminine flounce at the hem. Elegant with a touch of glamour, the Peony chemise is an antidote to cutesy-babydoll fatigue.
While you can’t expect the perfect fit of an actual bra from this underwire, you can expect amazing lift. None of the wire-free options that I reviewed last summer can compare. Just see the difference between my profile in the chemise and my profile in the Zinnia cami reviewed last week.
I also credit the non-stretch silk charmeuse that Sara uses. There’s no give in the cups or the straps, which works with the underwires to create a firm structure for large breasts. The 2-column adjustable back helps, too. I began on the loosest hook but found better support and fit on the tightest. As I’m sure you can see, the band is riding up slightly in back, but since this isn’t an actual bra, I’m not concerned.
Because this chemise is a loaner, I didn’t get to test it overnight to see whether I would wake up without spillage. I’m willing to bet that some adjustment would be necessary, however. Here are a few more selfies of various angles of my bust in this nightgown, including one showing the floating gore. For reference, I currently wear a 32FF bra, and I’m wearing the chemise in medium for large cups. Sometimes my boobs look a little wonky, and other times they look exactly as I want them to.
Regardless of some of the wonky looks, this chemise is so splurge-worthy that I wouldn’t mind occasionally re-adjusting the cups to get the siren look I’m going for. The workmanship of this garment is excellent. The French seams mean you could even wear this garment inside-out if you cut off the tags and don’t mind the hooks and eyes being turned around. The two-part cups themselves are lined in a pale cream silk with no unfinished seams showing.
Very interesting review Darlene. Are the straps comfortable?
Patricia, I didn’t notice any discomfort.
