I had the opportunity to speak to 10 large-busted runners after my half marathon, and 15 Hourglassy readers shared your experiences with bust size in relation to weight loss. Â I was actually surprised that the majority of the women who joined in the discussion did not lose any, or only a very small amount of, cup size when they lost weight. I thought that I was one of the few, not the many. Â Once again I’ve found comfort in our busty sisterhood.
I love my readers! Â I can always count on y’all to come through for me whenever I ask for input. Â One thing I’ve noticed is that there is something missing from my sports bra/weight loss posts. Â I’m primarily a runner, and although I do weight train on occasion (not as much as I should), that’s the extent of my current fitness routine. Â It would be great to get a wider range of experiences. Â It’d be interesting to learn how having a larger bust size affects swimmers, bikers, those of us that ride horses or those that do Crossfit. Â I know that you all have a depth of knowledge to share. Â Who knows? You may inspire others to try a new activity.
While we are on the subject of trying new things, I’m happy to report that Hourglassy has made contact with Carol Hartley, the dancer in the third Big Ballet photo that Darlene posted yesterday. Â This is a wonderful opportunity for us to get input from a large-busted dancer! Â I will be interviewing her for an upcoming column and hope you will flood the comment section with anything you’d like me to ask her!
I swim semi-regularly and the Fantasie bikini I bought last summer is more comfortable than my Speedos. I will probably get a cup-sized tank suit when I get back into it more, but for now it’s nice to not have to fuss with taking in the straps of my old swimsuits and just enjoy swimming without worrying about popping out.
As for horse riding, especially dressage. Having a SUPER sports bra is essential as dressage is about aesthetics as well so the bounce does not look good and it feels highly unpleasant especially in extended trot.
As for gym training, I’ve noticed in my FUSTRA training that I can’t really do some exercises with hand weights when laying on my back and having to keep my elbows quite close together. The bust is in the way! Also upright row has to stop under my bust as I simply the bar simply stops at my bust. We do get a good laugh about my bust with my small busted personal trainer as she can’t imagine how some things are difficult for me to do in the same way as they are for her 😀

This old video is a great visual why a good bra is needed even at the rising trot (There were other lessons to be learned as well but that was 25+ lbs, two trainers, and one discipline change ago)
I use Lynx for running, Bravissimo Inspire for moderate impact like cycling, and Shock Absorber for lifting (because compression is nice to get a full range of motion). I also have a Panache which I really don’t use. I’m still not satisfied at the high impact end, but I’m covered for moderate impact.
You know, I’ve always been curious about the Lynx but have never had the chance to speak to a large busted woman who wears that brand. What is your size?
I have SO many questions for Carol Hartley.
1. What size bra does she wear?
2. What bra did she wear for the auditions?
3. Did she give any special considerations to her bust as she prepared for the auditions?
4. Did her size change at all in the time leading up to the performance?
5. As we prepare to watch for Episodes 2 and 3, is there anything she would like us to notice or know?
6. How did bra considerations figure into the costume design?
7. From the images I’ve been able to find, it looks like she wears seamless bras under her leotards. Did these give enough support?
8. What can she share about the other full-busted (D+) dancers on the show?
I know I’ll have more questions, but this is a start!
