Leila is drawing a blank on a full bust alteration to share with you in August, so let’s help her out so that she can help us! As you get dressed or go shopping, what alteration do you wish you could do (or have done) to make an item fit–or simply look better with–your bust? What clever item have you dreamed of creating if only someone would point you in the right direction? Let her know at askleila [at] hourglassy [dot] com!
Meanwhile, I’m off for another session of learning how to sew my shirts (I explained the background here and here). I may even be picking up a secondhand JukiDDL5550N this Saturday!
That looks just like my Juki!! At first it may feel like it goes way too fast but then you find it’s sweet spot and you can get a slow and a super fast (and both powerful) stitch every time! I love my Juki.
Oh and thanks for asking for ideas for me.
I’m new to sewing and have only sewed a couple of clothing items for my toddlers. I would love to sew a zip up hoodie for myself. Not only am I busty but tall as well so I have a really hard time finding sleeves that are long enough. And of course I have to size up to fit my bust but then it looks like i’m wearing a box. I wear hoodies all the time and I would love a simple gray zip up hoodie that fits. I bought a pattern a while back but I have not had the courage to tackle it yet. I’m currently altering my Ewa Michalak S bra by bringing the straps closer together (and no, I will not be buying anymore EMs due to strapgate) which is probably the most difficult task I’ve done yet. I’m pretty much just winging it.
My reply is for you. I don’t know why it didn’t reply directly to you.
You’ll probably want to either curve your side seams on your hoodie to show you have a waist (I have to do this on tshirts) or you can find a pattern that has more seamlines. I like more seamlines because that means more embedded areas to adjust. Good luck!
