You can find Options 1-3 here.
Option 4: Wear a tee-shirt under your sundress.
From the back, her lavendar tee shirt almost
looks like part of the dress.

From the front, oh no. |
Don’t you love sundresses with elastic shirring? If manufacturers would only put enough fabric from the collarbone to the waist to accommodate large breasts, they would look great on us. They’d show our waists and fit our busts. As it is, they often create an empire waist that I’m not in love with, or the waistline rises higher in the front than it does in the back.
Option 5: Show off you bra. I love this little peek of neon green in the back. I’m going to look for more examples of Option 5 throughout the summer. If you see any, send them my way!
Option 5 is my exact problem for the wedding I'm in soon, but I didn't think it would look very classy to have the clasp of my bra showing, even if it is the same color as my dress. I ordered two "low back bra extenders" online and got one yesterday – it doesn't fit (too big), and the hooks are too far apart for my bra. Hopefully the other one will work for me…
Bummer. I was wondering how the extenders worked out for you. Let us know about the other one. Did you see Linda's blog post yesterday where she advised buying the bra before the wedding dress? Practical advice, but I'm hoping you come up with another solution for all of us!
I was terrible today. I did option one, but my bra straps weren't that close a match to the dress. And since the shirring part didn't quite cover my entire chest, I ended up feeling fat 🙁
Awwww. But I bet you were cool?
Cooler than I would have been any other way, I guess! It was a HOT muggy day.
Oh, option 4 was terrible!
I have a shirred top dress that I love. I can wear it braless (thanks to the reduction 4 years ago; although I'm back at D+, my shape is still decent, LOL), but it does tend to slip a bit. It has adjustable straps which helps. I pair it with a bra in the same tones, and the only parts you really see are the triangles on my upper chest…not too noticeable (I hope!). The big secret though…it's actually a maternity dress! So there's some extra length in the front, and the shirring is quite wide. It's also a knit, not a woven, which helps it cling and stay up.
A really simple fix would be to get some matching lace or ribbon, wide enough to cover the bra straps, and create a new strap under the existing straps of the dress (for a straight, unshaped strap). You can handstitch the ends in easily and you've got wider, bra friendly straps in minutes 🙂
