Check out New York & Company the next time you pass one. You may have a hard time leaving! Every time I headed to the door last week, I kept seeing something new I wanted to try on.

I actually thought the tunic below was too “hide me” looking in the dressing room, but once I got home and looked at this picture, I really liked it. The color is slimming (see my Charla Krupp quote after the jump), the scoop-neck flattering, and the dolman sleeves not so wide that they absorb the waist. Of course, the sleeves are supposed to be 3/4 length according to the website, but that’s life when you’re 5’3″. I can’t remember if I’m wearing a M or L in this picture.

This tunic can be accessorized nicely. I think a chunky necklace would be great with it. After the jump, I post a picture of me in the tank top and scarf that they sell next to it in the store.

I love the idea of scarves but tend to avoid them. What do you think of this one? I’m also intrigued by layering, and if this neckline were too low, I’d probably wear something underneath, but otherwise the tank top only seemed to add unnecessary bulk.

I’m not a giant fan of Charla Krupp, the author of How to Never Look Fat Again (I keep meaning to write about this), but here’s one tip I appreciated from her book:

“Many of us get in a rut and only think black, but anything that’s dark will be slimmer than light. So consider layering pieces in navy, charcoal, brown, eggplant, forest green, and burgundy, too.”

This tunic is a great example. At just $24.95, I think it’s a good investment for the fall! The line at New York & Co. was excruciatingly long when I was there (which is why I didn’t buy this cute lace graphic tee that I liked), so I may just order this tunic online.
