Everything you read about Orchard Corset is true–Ralph Berk, the owner who sizes you just by looking at you fully clothed as you walk in, the floor-to-ceiling shelves full of boxes of bras, the insanely good prices. When the total for my 2 Wacoal Bodysuedes came to $58, I said to Ralph, “You know I bought two, don’t you?” It wasn’t a mistake, and it made the trip to the Lower Eastside worth the subway fare and time–one Bodysuede bra usually costs $60.

Ralph asked if I was looking for something pretty, but I said just a seamless everyday bra. I’ve never looked at pretty bras at Orchard Corset because I assumed they didn’t have them. Too bad I was too tunnel-visioned to check them out. If you have, please let us know what the selection is like. And if you’ve ever tried their bridal lingerie, I’d welcome your review of the experience.

Ralph’s mother used to be the one to take me behind the curtain to try on Ralph’s selections, but this time it was Shirley, the gracious assistant who has been at Orchard Corset for 6 years. Sometimes Ralph’s wife also helps. Shirley found a few different styles for me to try, helped me into them, and confirmed that the Bodysuede 36DDD was perfect. And that was it.

Orchard Corset is worth visiting just for the experience, but it’s the value that makes it worth returning. If you can’t make it to 157 Orchard Street on a weekday or Sunday (they’re closed on Saturday), they also ship.
