After Tina’s responses to these questions on Tuesday, here are mine:
1. What time did you get up this morning?
About 8:30 a.m., par usual.
2. How do you like your steak?
It must be medium-rare.
3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema?
“Wreck-It Ralph.” It was pretty cute. I especially liked that it was full of classic video game characters in the backgrounds.
4. What is your favorite TV show?
Law & Order: SVU. Though it’s really not the same since Christopher Meloni left.
5. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
In New York City! Lucky me, since I already live there. If I had to pick somewhere else, it’d probably be upstate New York somewhere.
6. What did you have for breakfast?
I didn’t eat until after 12, so it was more of a lunch, but I went with leftover stuffed shells from two nights ago followed by a spoonful of Nutella for dessert.
7. What is your favorite cuisine?
Nouveau American, I guess. But I enjoy pretty much anything.
8. What foods do you dislike?
Kind of a lot. I’ve been called a picky eater on more than one occasion. Let’s see…soda, coffee, tea, mushrooms, broccoli, any mollusk (so clams, scallops, muscles, and the like), raw peppers, cauliflower, frozen spinach (fresh is okay)…I’m sure there are more I’m forgetting.
9. Favorite place to eat?
At home! My boyfriend’s an amazing cook. But some of my favorite restaurants in New York are Dinosaur BBQ, Ippudo, Peasant, Levain Bakery, Zenkichi, Mesa Coyoacan, Carmine’s Pizza…oh god so many good restaurants in this city, I could go on for pages.
10. Favorite dressing?
Regular old vinaigrette, or a good Caesar.
11.What kind of vehicle do you drive?
A bicycle!
12. What are your favorite clothes?
My two “Luscious” dresses from PinUpGirlClothing.com, in mint and navy blue. Too bad they’re not winter-appropriate, otherwise I would probably wear them every week.
13. Where would you visit if you had the chance?
Japan. Then out west in the US. Then Peru. China. London. Scotland. How about we say I’ll take any trip to anywhere if someone wants to buy my plane ticket? I love traveling!
14. Where would you want to retire?
Either the coast of Normandy or someplace surrounded by the woods in upstate NY.
15. Favorite time of day?
Bedtime!
16. Where were you born?
St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY
17. What is your favorite sport to watch?
I don’t like sports. But I have been known to follow tennis and get really worked up over the Olympics.
18.
Mysteriously, there is no question 18, so I’m making up my own. Ummmm, do you have a “real” job outside of blogging and what is it?
Answer: Yes! I am a freelance editor with a variety of clients, and a part-time assistant to a computer consultant. I also do a whole bunch of smaller ongoing gigs that may or may not pay: Associate Editor with nonprofit comics publishing group Pronto Comics; book reviewer for RT Book Reviews magazine; and occasional web editing.
19. How many siblings?
One sister, younger than me by two years.
20. Favorite pastime/hobby?
Comics! Reading them, editing them, going to conventions (sometimes even in costume)…
21. Who are you most curious about their responses to this?
Darlene :]
22. Bird watcher?
Not really, though it’s in my blood, as both my parents are bird-watchers.
23. Are you a morning person or a night person?
As much as I would like to be a night person, I have a habit of falling asleep by 11 p.m. and waking up by 8 a.m., so I think in practice I’m a morning person.
24. Do you have any pets?
One dog: He’s the cutest west highland terrier you’ve ever seen with one floppy ear and one standing-up ear. His name is Jacques, named for a number of Jacques that my boyfriend and I admire (Jacques Pepin, Jacques Cousteau, and Jacques Torres).
25. Any new and exciting news you’d like to share?
Nothing I can really think of.
26. What did you want to be when you were little?
An artist. Now I edit articles about art instead.
27. What is your best childhood memory?
Probably my very first trip to France with my parents and sister when I was maybe 9 years old. The whole trip was completely eye-opening and awakened the obsessive love of travel that I have now.
28. Are you a cat or dog person?
Both! Why do you have to pick just one? I had both growing up and wish I could have both now, but my apartment building only allows one pet per unit.
29. Are you married?
Nope. I live with my boyfriend, though. Maybe someday, but I’m in no hurry.
30. Always wear your seat belt?
ALWAYS! Anyone who doesn’t is a moron.
31. Been in a car accident?
Not unless being rear-ended counts.
32. Any pet peeves?
People who clip their nails on the subway. It’s DISGUSTING!
33. Favorite Pizza Toppings?
Extra cheese.
34. Favorite Flower?
Dandelions.
35. Favorite ice cream?
Ben & Jerry’s “Chunky Monkey.”
36. Favorite fast food restaurant?
I don’t eat fast food. Go read “Fast Food Nation” and you won’t either.
37. How many times did you fail your driver’s test?
None! I passed on the first try.
38. From whom did you get your last email?
Tina, of Hourglassy’s very own Corporate Curves Report.
39. Which store would you choose to max out your credit card?
If it hasn’t become obvious by now, PinUpGirlClothing.com.
40. Do anything spontaneous lately?
Not in the immediate past.
41. Like your job?
Yes, for the most part. Not having co-workers, health insurance, or paid sick and vacation days is kind of a bummer, but I really like my employers and certainly enjoy the flexibility that comes with freelancing.
42. Broccoli?
NOOOOOOO!!! I have hated it since the age of 5 and that is not going to change any time soon.
43. What was your favorite vacation?
My last trip to France with my parents and the boyfriend. We went to the Perigord region, which is known for foie gras and truffles. ‘Nuff said.
44. Last person you went out to dinner with?
The boyfriend. We went to Zenkichi, a Japanese restaurant in Brooklyn that serves Tokyo-style small plates (no sushi). It is insanely delicious and very reasonably priced, especially for Williamsburg. Highly recommended!
45. What are you listening to right now?
The endless construction going on outside my window. Another apartment building is being built in my complex and it’s unfortunately very loud.
46. What is your favorite color?
Blue, unless I’m in a perky mood and then it’s pink.
47. How many tattoos do you have?
One nearly half sleeve on my left arm, one smaller tat on my right hip, five birds (royal terns, to be exact) on my back, and the black outline of a cartoony wing on the outside of each ankle. By the way, ankle tattoos—NOT RECOMMENDED!! They are beyond painful since it is all bone in that spot.
49. What time did you finish this quiz?
1:56 p.m. EST
50. Coffee Drinker?
Ugh, no. I love the smell of coffee, but hate the taste. When it comes to hot beverages, I’m strictly a hot chocolate girl (unless there’s alcohol involved haha).
And finally, here are some pictures of my adorable dog:
your dog is the cutest thing ever!
I’m not how well it would fit the overall blog- but I think a post on cosplaying with a full bust (though I think the attention brought has been well covered recently already) might be interesting.
I think that’s a great idea! But I haven’t really made enough costumes to fill out a whole post–only two at this point (I only make a new one maybe every other year). One of them was largely a leotard, which I did write about (https://hourglassy.com/2011/10/off-the-rack-happy-halloween/) and the other was an intentionally blocky robe, so a big bust made no difference. I literally made the same robe for my boyfriend, just bigger. (We were dressed as the characters Pain and Konan from the anime Naruto.)
Some costumes I want to do in the future include Sailor Moon and She-Ra. She-Ra will be a major busty challenge since her dress is strapless, backless, and has a sweetheart neckline. I’m thinking illusion net will be necessary because I do not do strapless!
I forgot about that post
I think for she-ra you need to look at the bodice of tutus for construction ideas (but with added built-in cups of course, I think illusion netting is a good idea for comfort).
I wonder if Yaya Han has ever posted anything about cosplaying with a full bust?
