If you couldn’t make it this time, you MUST come next time. As I put my “new to me” clothes on to photograph for today’s post, I realized one new perk of a clothing swap: you get to experiment with new styles without sacrificing a giant investment if you later decide you don’t like it. You also get to try brands you may have always wanted to try but never gotten around to.
Case in point: this size 16RC Pepperberry dress that fit me perfectly, over a 34G polka-dot Panache Cleo bra (excuse the hair clips). This was the ONLY Pepperberry item at the swap, ladies, and I was lucky because the 5’10” woman who brought it found it too short on her. Imagine having one of these swaps in London and being able to try Pepperberry styles to your heart’s content?
Next up, a brown corduroy Cherokee jacket that I can actually button. Since I’m trying to stay away from blacks and greys this fall, this will be a good addition to my layering options.
Here’s an example of trying something I wouldn’t normally have: a tunic! The colors caught my eye, and I think I’m finally going to venture into leggings for this.
Finally, I thought I’d try the blazer over the tunic while I was photographing. I think it works. What do you think?
If you think you’d like to organize a busty clothing swap in your own city, contact me (darlene [at] hourglassy [dot] com), and I’ll tell you what I learned from this experience. The biggest challenge was getting women to come. Perhaps some of the women who heard about it didn’t identify as “busty”, or maybe they didn’t want to part with their great busty finds (planning either to lose weight and fit them again or holding onto them in case they gain weight again?). Or maybe it was such a gorgeous day outside and they already had weekend plans. I’d love to hear your suggestions for increasing participation next time around because it was so successful–EVERYONE left with at least one “new to them” find–that I know we’ll be having another one.
One great thing about having the event at ClosetDash Shop was that we weren’t limited to what was brought in that day. Here is the rack of items we brought in, plus items that ClosetDash founder Jennifer Lee culled for us:
Another great thing about ClosetDash? Jennifer has posted these items on her website so that you can participate from your own computer. Most of us also found items with design features that flatter us on the other racks at ClosetDash as well.
I have tons more to share, and I’m sure you know the raffle items were a GIANT hit. Everyone left with something she liked from that as well, and the goody bags were packed with valuable discounts and samples. THANK YOU to the fabulous donors who made these items possible. I’ll be mentioning you by name here again soon. For now, I’ll leave you with images from the swap itself.
I’m glad it went so well! (I’m also excited to see that the blazer fit Miss Underpinnings so nicely, because I think our measurements are similar.)
We already chatted a bit about this on Livejournal, but I’m definitely interested in *having* a swap, I just don’t know if I’d want to take on all the organizing. If any other Pacific Northwesterners want to team up, I’ll be game for a team effort!
I was so glad I was able to come by, not only to meet the wonderful, enthusiastic ladies and get a chance to win the amazing prizes, but also to see in-person some of the wonderful pieces that are out there for busty gals. I can’t wait to write about Campbell & Kate (good grief those shirts are gorgeous) and Bijte, because I have nothing but high praise. What a great event!
Please have another swap in the future, Darlene! I live in upstate New York and could easily take a day-trip down to the city, but I was out of town on a business trip. Reading your post with a bit of jealousy today! Looks like it was a blast! The polka-dot dress looks great on you.
That looks like it was great fun! I wish I could’ve been there, instead of 3,000 miles away!
1) I’m so jealous!
2) I was thinking yesterday that I need to consult with you because I’d love to have a swap in Paris.
3) The Pepperberry dress look awesome on you and the DD Atelier dress is such a great fit on Miss Underpinnings.
4) I’m so jealous!
Thank you again so much for having your swap event at my shop! You ladies were such a joy to have and it was so much fun seeing everyone walk away with some amazing pieces!
I’m actually working on a “How to Host A Swap Party” blog post and will be sure to post the link up here once it’s done so everyone can host a swap party in their home town! Also for those who did miss out, you’ll be able to grab some of the extra pieces I still have via my website http://www.closetdashshop.com on Wednesday.
Happy swapping everyone!!
Jen
PS – Sweets…your cookies were AH-MAZ-ING! 🙂 I may need to get you to make me some more for some upcoming events
I want to steal that dress. 😉
I’m so glad to hear that it was a success! You really look amazing in your finds too! I especially love the Bravissimo dress, any chance you’ll be placing an order from them soon? 😉
I wish I could have something like that here but I don’t think there’s any way to reasonably get the word out. 🙁 Plus Brazilians are not as into the used clothes/clothing swamp idea. It’s really a shame!
It sounds like this was a really fun event. The Pepperberry dress does fit you great, but the warm colors in the jacket and tunic look very flattering on you.
I’ve already placed an order from the Closet Dash website. 🙂
Thanks so much Jodi! It’ll be its way tomorrow 🙂
Darlene, thank you for mentioning us! Miss Underpinnings looks amazing in our Wool London Jacket! We were happy to participate in your Busty Clothing Swap and hope it’s not the last one 😉
