Last weekend I went to visit my fabulous widowed mother at her lakeview home a few hours drive north from Helsinki. She wanted us to check out some vintage furniture at a local thrift shop, so off we went. Being a clothes addict, I could not not check out the clothes there, too. I’m glad I did!

I spotted a nice grey dress from the rack, fondled the fabric and was wowed. I pulled the dress off the rack, and it turned out to be a Hilfiger Denim dress that looked like it had never been worn. And for just 10€, I had to bag it! I managed to say no to a nice black jersey Gant dress, but instead I found a nice jacket for just 2€. Right now it’s in my car “wardrobe” (i.e., the clothes and shoes I keep in my car just in case) so no photo of that this week.

At first I was not so convinced about the ruffled bottom as frills in general are so not me, but I thought I’d try it on anyway. I ended up thinking that frills in this way do suit my style as the dress is simple, the color is not girly, and the nicely cut uneven hem actually draws the attention down from the bust, plus  it balances my broad shoulders.

I would probably wear a black jacket over this to work.

This great find encouraged me to try thrift shopping more often as I had not done that in years! You never know what you might find if you just browse the racks focused on spotting quality fabrics.
